“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for the shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled”. Matthew 5:3-6 NIV
What does it mean to be blessed? I think it means happy….but not in the happiness that we think is happy. It’s kind of content or at peace. I could be wrong about this meaning, but it is what the Lord is putting on my heart today. Being at peace, no matter what our circumstances are. No matter what we are going through, we can be at peace still. That peace doesn’t come naturally, I don’t think. We have to depend solely on God to fill us with peace no matter what we are going through. And it doesn’t come from ourselves. It can’t come from ourselves; it comes from being filled with the Holy Spirit. I used to not know how to be filled with the Holy Spirit. I would pray and ask God to be filled with the Holy Spirit and then wait to feel something different and it never happened. But I have realized that we can’t be filled with the Holy Spirit on our own. He has to come in his own time, at just the right moment. When you can’t go on, but have the strength to go on anyway. When you have to make a decision and you don’t know what to do and then suddenly everything makes sense. That is the Holy Spirit speaking to you. That is the Holy Spirit giving you the strength to take another breath. We sometimes don’t receive the Holy Spirit when we ask for him..but we receive him right when we need to. He wants us to have patience. Sometimes that means to wait. I am trying to decide what classes I need to take this semester and I have done everything in my power to decide. I have emailed the teachers and asked them questions and now I just have to wait. Like I said in previous blogs, patience is not one of my strong points. But I asked the Holy Spirit to help me make a decision and now I just have to wait for him to give me an answer. Sometimes the Holy Spirit or God wants you to take all the steps you can before he intervenes. But I think this verse, being blessed, means being at peace. At least it seems to mean that for me. I don’t know what it means for you. God speaks to us individually. So what something means for me might not mean the same thing for you. But if you decide to just take the next breath, that is the Holy Spirit. Thanks for reading my thoughts.
